Summer Internship

We offer students who are interested in health services and outcomes research a fertile environment to learn and enjoy research.

We have a distinct curriculum for all summer students (high school students, college students, medical school and engineering students). Every student is given a succinct project and assigned a mentor for the summer. The first week, all students will learn to navigate PubMed searches, Endnote and will receive a basic understanding of transplantation. During their second week,  students will start focusing on the topic of their research project through reading and face-to-face teaching with their mentor. Project specific work starts after this introductory intense course with three objectives: 1) To complete their specific project with close mentor guidance, 2) preparation of an ATC abstract to be submitted in December, and 3) the preparation of a first manuscript draft.

All students participate in the weekly NUTORC meetings and the focus group specific meetings of their research topics. Students participate in multi-disciplinary morning rounds once a week. Lectures are held every Monday/Wednesday/Friday by transplant clinicians on topics relevant to transplantation. Furthermore, students are encouraged to shadow surgeries and clinics once a week.

We encourage the application of students at different levels and from different institutions to apply. We also encourage minority and disabled students to apply.
